Analysis of Carbon Dioxide Laser Cut Surface Finish on Incoloy 800 Alloy | |
---|---|
Abstract-In this study, samples of Incoloy 800 Alloy series plate with the thickness of 1mm was cut using Carbon Dioxide (COZ) laser cutting system with different combination of process parameters such as laser power output, cutting speed and assist gas pressure. The surface roughness tester was used to assess the surface finish of the Incoloy plate after the laser cut. The result of the surface roughness for each cut was analyzed to understand the effect of the selected laser process parameters towards the surface finish of the Incoloy plate. It was found that the laser power output and the cutting speed contributed significantly towards the surface finish of the Incoloy samples, while the assist gas pressure was observed to give minor effect on the surface finish during the laser cutting process. It was also revealed that there was an interaction between all the selected processing parameters, therefore to achieve an optimal surface finish, the laser output power, the laser cutting speed and the assist gas pressure must be regulated and controlled at a appropriate optimum level. |
