The 2nd Indonesia International Conference on Communication Indo ICC Communication,Context, and Community. Department of Communication, Universitas Indonesia. Depok December, 6-7,2012

IICC is a Bi-Annual international conference aimed to pool together scholars studying in the field of media and communications. The 1st IICC was held in Bidakara, South Jakarta, successfully invited approximately 200 communication scholars from various nationalities and universities. Entitled ‘Global Challenge to the Future of Communications’, the 2010 IICC was led by Stephen W. Littlejohn, Karen A. Foss, Robert T. Craig, and David Marshall as keynote speakers.

However, both as a media studies scholar and the chair of the upcoming conference, I realise the importance of embracing a multisciplinary approach in understanding the role of media in our current global and local society. The role of media becomes even more significant when considering the larger socio-political context of the Asia Pacific region. Therefore, the theme of the 2nd IICC is ‘Communication, Context, and Community’ aimed to highlight this importance and to better understand how the media is relevant in bridging and building inter-national and/or global communities.

As the leading institution in one of the largest countries in Asia Pacific, we would like to house an event that is aimed to bring about scholars from various disciplines and build a network of Asia Pacific scholars. We aim to understand how a regional community may or have come tobeing as well as shape a community of scholars through the organisation of this conference. In doing so, we look forward to build a longstanding and mutually beneficial cooperation between institutions and its members.
